It All Started with a Vision in 1898
It all began in 1898 on Kapelleplein, when Guillaume and Louise Dekock opened their first shop: Au Grand Mouton Blanc. Why that name? A tribute to wool, the noble, natural material used to “card” mattresses, and a promise to offer products with unparalleled comfort.
Guillaume was a gifted furniture maker who placed his craftsmanship at the service of his customers. He was driven by a desire to create and restore furniture with an eye for detail and perfection. The best was never good enough.

Louise, on the other hand, was both a woman and a master in business. Her warm welcome and attractive shop windows quickly attracted a loyal clientele. Together, they laid the foundation for a business where customer well-being came first.
Success wasn’t guaranteed in those days. Competition in the area was fierce. But Guillaume and Louise were undeterred. They pushed forward, offering what few others did: a truly human experience and products of exceptional quality.

The 1900s: The Family Grows
In 1919, now a father, Guillaume took a big leap: he divided his activities between his sons, Gabriel and François, and introduced a new brand, Au Bon Repos, located on Blaesstraat.

This strategic decision turned out to be a major milestone in the history of the business. The company no longer focused solely on bedding—the range expanded to include furniture, carpets, and everything a home needs to become a true cocoon.
Despite the hardships brought by two world wars, the company showed remarkable resilience. Many businesses were forced to shut down, but the Dekock family managed to keep theirs afloat.

The 1950s: Major Innovations
The post-war period marked a time of modernization. In 1958, at the Brussels World’s Fair, Au Bon Repos stood out with its innovative offerings, such as extra beds and sofa beds tailored to changing lifestyles. These products were an instant success and further enhanced the brand’s reputation.
A few years later, the introduction of Lattoflex slatted bed bases revolutionized the bedding sector in Belgium. Designed to offer optimal sleep support, this product became a must-have reference and confirmed Au Bon Repos as a pioneer.
But innovation didn’t stop there. Future generations continued to diversify the business and expanded the product range to include high-end furniture, refined lighting, and stunning decorative objects.
