How to find the right position to sleep like a baby?

Have you often wondered if the position you sleep in is good for your body and your sleep? We explain it all to you!

Sleeping on your back

If the Oscar for the best sleeping position existed, it would be awarded to the category “sleeping on your back”. Indeed, this position limits muscular tensions because it allows the spinal column to be aligned.

Is lower back pain bothering you? Consider placing a cushion under your knees to reduce the hollow of your lower back, or opt for electrically adjustable bed frames.

Even though it has been designated as the “ideal position”, it is not recommended for everyone. For people with sleep apnea or snoring, it is best not to adopt it.

Sleeping on your site

There are 3 main positions:

  • Rifle dog
  • Right side
  • Left side

Riffle dog

Sleeping in a rifle dog style means sleeping on your side with your legs bent against you.

Although this sleeping position is very popular, is it not recommended for people with back pain.

Indeed, the vertebrae of the neck are not in line with those of the spine. It is therefore advisable to sleep with a thicker pillow in order to fill the width with your shoulders and to find the optimal position during your sleep. Tension in the hips can be felt, in order to remedy this, think of raising a knee by sliding a pillow just under it.

Right side

This is a good alternative because this position is in line with the alignment of the spine during sleep and helps to reduce snoring. It is also ideal for improving digestion as the stomach is not compressed.

Left side

If you are pregnant, this is THE perfect position to sleep in, as it promotes blood circulation and limits acid reflux.

However, it is recommended to change sides frequently in order to avoid numbness in the arm, due to crushing of the nerves and muscles.

Sleeping on your stomach

According to a British study, 7% of the population sleep on their stomach. And for good reason, this is not the best position for sleeping because it causes tension in the cervical muscles and can cause a hollowing out of the back.

If you are looking for a restful sleep, then avoid this position because you may not sleep well and wake up with a stiff neck. Not nice, is it?

To conclude, knowing the best position to sleep in depends on your health and your sleep habits. Sleeping on your back and side are the most recommended positions to keep your cervical vertebrae aligned.
