The Legendary Stressless® Recliner

The timeless icon, the Stressless® recliner, was born on the west coast of Norway, in the peaceful community of Sykkylven, where their main factory is still located. Founded in 1934 by Jens Ekornes, the company has since shaped some of the world's most elegant furniture. In an environment where resources were scarce, their sustainability philosophy was firmly embedded in the factory's DNA.

The Brand's Foundations

In 1934, Jens Ellingsen Ekornes launched a small furniture business. In a short time, J. E. Ekornes Fjærfabrikk (the spring factory), with only three employees and German machinery, gained its first customers and thrived by selling springs for furniture and mattresses throughout Norway.

When the Stressless® Original was introduced in 1971, its success was phenomenal. Today, whether it's a recliner, a sofa, or a Stressless® dining chair, each piece is hand-assembled with the most sophisticated furniture manufacturing technology.
