Enjoying staying in bed

That's it, since a few weeks we are officially in autumn. With this season comes shorter days when it is still dark when it is time to get up. In these conditions, many people find it more difficult to get up when the alarm clock rings. Although most of the time this is simply a wish to laze in bed a little longer, it can also be a real pathology. Au Bon Repos discusses for you the fact that you like to stay in bed and what this means in practice.

For most people, the bed and, by extension, the bedroom are synonymous with well-being and safety. However, the urge to stay in bed can, if taken to excess, reveal psychological problems. Indeed, there are two types of pathologies related to the need to stay in bed. Dynasia concerns difficulties in getting up in the morning, while clinophilia consists of an inability to get out of bed at any time of day.

As far as dynasia is concerned, it is easy to recognize those who suffer from it: they are the addicts of the "snooze" button. In addition to making you lose time in the morning, this bad habit has a negative impact on your brain. For your brain, the sound of the alarm clock means it is time to get up. But by staying in bed, you are sending a contradictory message to your brain. So, when you finally decide to get up, it is even harder for you to do so. This results in a bad mood, irritability, and a feeling of tiredness. But why can't you get up on the first try? This can be due to sleep problems (you can read our article on this subject by clicking here) but also to general unhappiness.

Clinophilia, on the other hand, does not only concern the waking period. It is a general state where you do not want to get out of bed or even out of your home. This longing to stay in bed is much more serious than the first pathology since it is usually a symptom of depression, psychosis, or anxiety disorders. The bed then appears to be the only refuge from the outside world, it is the place where one feels safe. The person then enters a vicious circle where the longer they stay in bed, the more tired they feel and therefore the longer they stay in bed. Unlike the dynasia, it is not just a question of adopting a better lifestyle to solve the problem. In general, work on the psyche will be necessary to break out of this cycle.

Do not worry, it is not because you find it difficult to get up from time to time that you suffer from one of these pathologies. You may simply have to adjust your sleeping hours or the space in which you sleep somewhat. At Au Bon Repos, we offer you everything - both in terms of bedding and decoration - to make your nights a good one. So, we hope that with our products you will have a good night's sleep and be ready for another good day the next morning.
